Being in South Dakota has made me more American; I need look no further than my love of baseball.
Our local team, formerly known as the
Canaries
has been renamed to the
Pheasants
.
From what I read it will be a tough year for my team, The Angels. I take heart in knowing that being a fan is not defined when you cheer a team that wins, but when you endure defeat for those you had hoped would win.

I have to agree that minor league baseball feels pretty darn American. I'm worried for the Angels this year too. They let a lot of good talent get away. It makes me so sad to see Vladdy in a Ranger's uniform and Figgy in a Mariner's one. I think I remember that you are a fan of "The Freak". Jason got a really good photo series of his pitching motion. For me, I have felt more American this year by going to hockey games. I support the Anaheim Ducks. I even have a hat. How's that for American?

Hockey is a lot of fun; of all the sports teams in Sioux Falls, the Stampede hockey team is the most fun to watch. But it must be your upper midwest roots, not California that is pulling you to hockey, and California, not the upper midwest, that has you wearing a hat rather than a jersey.
