Angel of Grief
Yesterday marked a calendar month since we lost Lael but I count weeks by Sunday since it was Father's Day, June 21, when we wept our goodbyes.

Cemeteries have become a new experience for me; they are no longer creepy or mystical, they are just sad. "Each stone is a story," the lady from where we are getting her memorial said and I agree. We look at these stories and hope to tell our own in memory of our Peanut. It is now impressed upon us how the policy of grief is universal: no human escapes death and loss. Even though our circumstances are particularly difficult, it is remarkable how many children are buried by their parents. We feel with the parents whose inscriptions we read when we are visiting Lael.

This is a headstone that seems heavily inspired by the Angel of Grief which William Wetmore Story sculpted for the memory of his wife.
