. We live up the hill, in line with where you see the sun rising

. The
Big Sioux River
is frozen solid now and hence the track marks from winter play. In the summer people kayak and canoe in it.
I like how where we live takes some of the stereotypes of South Dakota and obscures them: our area is heavily wooded, the hill makes for modest form of physical geography where people think of prairie, and the river is a part of life since we cross it every day.

Short days in winter can be a drag but one offset I enjoy is that I get to see sunrise nearly every day.
