I've had just about every geekish hobby there is to be had. One which most people don't know about is that I used to collect stamps
1
so you can imagine my delight at a postcard from Cuba I recently received; the picture of a young Fidel was intriguing
2
but the stamp, a mere commodity in Cuba I'm sure, reminded me of how delightful it was to find and keep rare things.
1
Orwell
wrote
of stamp collectors: "Stamp-collectors are a strange, silent, fish-like breed, of all ages, but only of the male sex; women, apparently, fail to see the peculiar charm of gumming bits of coloured paper into albums."

I won't debate Fidel here but I've got dissenting feelings since the defiance some cheer for from far is why you see people floating in rafts across an ocean to get away from a country and people they love.
